Tears – McFarlane Mansion Restoration
Exterior Restoration & Interior Remodel – 1991
7500 S.F. – $200,000
The Tears-McFarlane Mansion is the last remaining house in Cheesman Park. The stately porch, intricate leaded glass windows and richly detailed balustrade at the widow’s walk make this building one of Denver’s finest examples of Georgian architecture.
Years of weathering and deferred maintenance left the building in need of serious repair. BlueSky Studio was retained to provide technical and design services to correct many waterproofing problems and to restore the exterior and interior to their original utility and beauty.
BlueSky Studio used the existing watershed system and modern technology to restore the widow’s walk guttering to proper function. The richly detailed wood balusters and railings were disassembled and stripped of many coats of lead paint. They were then restored and repainted, using only the original wood materials. The original windows were restored to working order and repainted.
